For more than seven decades, Mickey’s Deli has offered more than Italian sandwiches or pizza in Hermosa Beach. It is a community gathering spot and a family tradition. It symbolizes the South Bay’s heart and character. My favorite beach was Hermosa Beach at 2nd Street and Hermosa Ave. For lunch, I would dry off and head into Mickey’s Deli for a Mickey’s Combo.

Eric Stevens was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) six years ago. Eric is a South Bay native, former Rams football player, firefighter, husband, and founder of the AxeALS Foundation. He is a lifelong friend of Mickey Mance, co-owner of Mickey’s Deli. The team wanted to support Eric and his wife, Amanda, in their fight against ALS.
Firefighter cooking culture is key to firehouse life. Crews pool their money, buy groceries, and take turns cooking. They eat every meal together. When Eric was a firefighter, he became known for his turkey pesto sandwich. Mickey’s Deli decided to add it as ‘Eric’s Turkey Pesto Sandwich.’

Mickey’s Deli found a way to help through food. They introduced ‘Eric’s Turkey Pesto,’ inspired by Stevens’ favorite flavors. Built on toasted ciabatta with turkey, mozzarella, pesto aioli, tomatoes, onions, basil, and plenty of garlic, the sandwich became more than just another item. It became a symbol of community support.
Join me and support the fight against ALS by purchasing Eric’s Turkey Pesto Sandwich at Mickey’s Deli during May. Every dollar from your purchase will be donated to the axeALS Foundation to help continue the mission to AXE ALS. Visit today and make a difference with your meal.
You can also help by placing a catering order of $250 or more with My Bella Vita Catering in May. For each qualifying order, $50 will be donated to the AxeALS Foundation to further support their important work.
