St. Katherine’s Greek Orthodox Church hosts the annual South Bay Greek Festival from Fri Jul 12 – Sun July 14. The event began in 1964, and despite the COVID break is still going strong.
The festival offers plenty of delicious Greek food made with love by hand (think spanakopita, lamb chops, baklava, and more), Greek music, and dancing, all just a stone’s throw from the beach. I almost forgot, there will be Greek beer and wine! OPA!!!!
Unlike some food festivals that invite local restaurants, the items at this festival are made by church members. Some of these recipes have been handed down through the generations, and it’s great to see grown-up children taking over the responsibilities from their parents.
Over the years, the event planners must have acted on feedback. I’ve observed location changes for desserts, kids’ activities, and the beer station. They have even added additional shade umbrellas. The net result is less foot traffic and a better overall experience.
The festival hours are as follows:
Friday, Jul 12: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Saturday, Jul 13: Noon to 10 p.m.
Sunday, Jul 14: Noon to 9 p.m.
The cover charge is only $3 for general admission, $2 for seniors, and free for kids under 12. You can attend free of charge on Saturday or Sunday if you bring this coupon.
