The Federal Introduces New Catering Offering

September 13, 2017 by Bryan

Unless you are a professional event planner, you may not have a clue about supplying food when it comes to hosting a party or a company function. I recently learned that The Federal in Long Beach recently launched a catering division and I recently sampled some of their offerings.

The FederalThe Federal is a hip gastropub that took over the space where the Madison previously operated. This is a former Security Pacific  bank building with three-story ceilings framed by long windows and ornate light fixtures that make for a unique dining space. Because of its size, it is often used for wedding receptions and large gatherings.

The event I attended was inside The Federal Underground, a 300-capacity music venue and 90-seat speakeasy that occupies the subterranean rooms beneath the restaurant. They had hired a DJ to spin tunes that evening and had their food set up in attractive stations throughout the cavernous room.

Cheese and Charcuterie plate - The Federal

The Cheese and Charcuterie plate came with a nice variety of items: smoked gouda, smoked turkey, prosciutto, salami, candied walnuts, almonds and fresh blueberries. It was a nice combination of salty and sweet.

The sliders were made with braised short ribs and as a result they were tender and tasty. They weren’t overly saucy and because of that, didn’t require a handful of napkins. I like how the fries were provided in a self serve station with empty paper decorative cones. Ketchup and other dipping sauces were available. This was extremely easy to carry and munch on.

Hot biscuits with choice of filling or country gravy - The Federal

They had a unique hot biscuit station. Hot country gravy was provided in a tureen, or people could select from creative toppings such as: honey, honey butter, tomato jam, honey mustard, pesto butter or jam.

Delicious bite-sized pastries - The Federal

The had a myriad of desserts available. What caught my eye were some of my favorites that were made into handy bite-sized portions: lemon meringue, apple crumble and chocolate eclairs. I really enjoyed the apple crumble and it was just the right amount for me.

Their catering menu has a nice variety of individual sandwiches, sandwich platters, lunch boxes, salads, and of course, items to satisfy that sweet tooth. Even a dozen of fresh baked cookies is a good deal at $26. I’ve occasionally brought fresh cookies into the office and it has been a big hit.

I particularly like having The Federal Catering as one of my options because it offers me greater flexibility than dealing with a chain restaurant. For example, many chain establishments are not allowed to deviate from their preset offerings and menus.

Catering inquiries may be submitted via their website. Orders may be picked up in person or delivered to your home or office. This is a great choice for a party at your home or for a corporate meeting that extends into lunchtime.
