Paris Baguette arrives in the South Bay

March 8, 2017 by Bryan

Editor’s Update: Paris Baguette closed in January 2020. Other locations exist and may be found at parisbaguette.com

South Korean chain, Paris Baguette, recently soft opened in Redondo Beach. Located near Beryl St. and Pacific Coast Hwy, they reside in a shopping center anchored by Whole Foods. Their grand opening is scheduled for Friday, March 10.

The pastry area is self serve. Take what you need with the supplied pair of tongs and bring it forward to the cashier.

Paris Baguette also has freshly made sandwiches and salads packed to go. These “grab and go” offerings are suitable for dining al fresco at the park. They also have some pre-made gourmet sandwiches that they can toast while you wait.

Tray of pastries that I selected

I picked up a tray and selected items that I thought I would enjoy and also items for my family. Included were two chocolate croissants, a garlic almond cream stick, crab meat croquette and two cannolis topped with fresh strawberries.

I also selected both the grilled chicken, bacon and brie and the caprese sandwiches. I had both toasted and brought them home.

The Grilled Chicken with Bacon and Brie sandwich was served “Philly-style” with caramelized onions and grilled peppers. Bacon and brie semi-melted cheese made for an extremely tasty combination.

The Caprese Sandwich came with fresh mozzarella and vine-ripened tomatoes on a soft, but crunchy baguette. It also had a tangy pesto vinaigrette dressing that worked well with the toppings.

Crab meat croquette

Paris Baguette exercises French baking techniques and the pastries were extremely crispy and flaky. I tended towards the savory ones and tasted both the curry croquette and the crab meat croquette. Both were quite tasty, but I think the curry croquette was mostly puff shell versus filling.

The cannolis were light and crispy and filled with a delicate custard and whipped cream filling. The fresh sliced strawberries enhanced this tasty dessert.

In addition to their baked goods and sandwiches, they have a full line of beverages. Espressos, mochas, iced tea, smoothies and frappes are on the menu and look quite inviting. Snacking items like ice cream pops, macarons, and fruit puff pastries are also available.

For the grand opening, they are offering a free Paris Baguette branded coffee mug with any purchase of $15 or more. This offer is good from Friday March 10 through Sunday March 12.
