July 4 BBQ Take-Out in Los Angeles

June 29, 2020 by Bryan

Updated July 2, 2020

Due to the State of California prohibiting large social gatherings, most firework displays won’t take place this year. In addition, fireworks of any kind are illegal in Los Angeles County. Finally, with so many people cooking at home these days, why not take advantage of one of these July 4 BBQ specials. Please note with the exception of the Original Farmers Market, you must place your order ahead of the July 4 holiday.

DTLA
Moo’s Craft Barbecue

Fans of Moo’s Craft Barbecue miss their Sunday experience at the Smorgasburg at the Row DTLA. When I checked on them on June 27, I was blown away that they are completely sold out a full week before the holiday.

MidCity
The Original Farmers Market

Didn’t plan ahead for the 4th? Fortunately, Gov. Newsom’s recent order to close dining rooms doesn’t apply to The Original Farmers Market open-air venue. Whether you wish to purchase meat of impeccable quality from Huntington Meats and Sausages or Marconda Meats, or bakery items, fresh produce, dry goods, the Market has enough variety to address everyone’s needs.

If you are out of time and don’t want to cook, the Market also has a number of popular restaurants featuring BBQ ribs, housemade fried chicken, pizza, tacos, sushi, gumbo and desserts such as pies and ice cream.

Parking is available in either of the Market’s two convenient lots. 90 minutes free validation with purchase from a Farmers Market merchant OR 2 hours free with validation from select grocers.

Midcity
Slab BBQ

Slab used to operate out of backyards and be known as Trudy’s Underground BBQ. Fortunately, owner Burt Bakman opened up a brick and mortar on 3rd Street just east of the Beverly Center.

Their July 4 order form indicates a nice variety of different bundles in portions for one, two, four and more! Proteins include brisket, pulled pork, chicken or “Tony’s Ribs”.

Westside
The Rose

This iconic restaurant began in the 70’s and is still going strong. For July 4, The Rose will feature the ultimate in flexibility, an a la carte menu with no minimum order. The entrees include smoked brisket, hanger steak carne asada, slow roasted chicken, carolina pulled pork and farmers market grilled vegetables. BBQ sides and whole 9” pies like Banana Cream, Bourbon Peach and Blueberry Corn Chess Pie complete the menu.

Culver City
Maple Block Meat Co

Delicious peachwood smoked brisket quickly put Maple Block on the map. They are also known for celebrating the holidays with specials like peachwood smoked Easter hams and peachwood smoked turkeys for Thanksgiving. For the 4th, they will have three different BBQ party packs: Wagyu Beef Back Ribs Pack, Brisket, Ribs and Chopped Pork Pack and the Whole Smoked Chicken Pack. The packs include a choice of two large classic sides and choice of fresh buttermilk biscuits or cornbread (both come with whipped honey-butter). Orders must be placed by Thursday, July 2.

Redondo Beach
Shade Hotel, Fifth of July BBQ Party

Executive Chef Craig Hopson prepared a five-course pre-fixe family meal to go for an amazingly low price of $60. Entrees include Grilled Chicken Thighs with a tangy chipotle honey mustard sauce and Baby Back Ribs with a house-made smoky BBQ sauce. Sides such as Summer Tomato Salad, Napa Cabbage Slaw and Loaded Potato Salad are also included. Six Fresh Cherry Pie with brown sugar crumble and vanilla whipped cream is available for an additional $20.

Orders may be picked up Sunday, July 5, from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm.

Bottom line, if you are tired of cooking and don’t want fast food, any one of these is an excellent July 4 BBQ option to take.
