Great American International Seafood Market – Foodie Heaven

July 22, 2022 by Bryan

The Great American International Seafood Market is located in the heavily frequented Golden Cove Shopping Center anchored by Trader Joe’s near Poke Me. The parking is ample; fortunately, they have short-term parking slots available steps away from the market.

Your olfactory senses won’t detect that this is a seafood market. You won’t smell seafood because the store is spotless. The outside is highly deceiving. Once inside, the market extends well beyond the scope of the market’s exterior wall. I like that the market is wide open without tall aisles.

They replaced their canned organic sardines, tuna, clams, squid, mussels, and octopus with a curated selection of wines. I didn’t examine the bottles closely, but the J. Lohr White Riesling caught my eye because riesling is a food-friendly wine.

In addition to the large Italian section, they also feature many Japanese ingredients like soy sauce and temari.

The Great American International Seafood Market represents Italy well. The feature imported pasta, canned tomatoes, parmesan cheese, and a good selection olive oil and balsamic vinegar. As an example of their authenticity, they currently stock artisan pasta made in Puglia, Italy. So if you want to create an authentic Italian experience at home, all the supplies are here!

That day I was there to purchase some salmon. That day they had Scottish, Wild Caught Sockeye, and Farm-Raised Norwegian. All salmon filets were priced at $19.99 lb. They also feature ready-to-eat prepared salmon, such as their Smoked In-House Salmon at $24.99 lb. I selected the Norwegian because of its quality and because it is sustainably farmed.

Armenian String Cheese
I don’t have to drive to Glendale!

I examined the refrigerator case and saw Italian sodas, chilled white wine, and sake. What blew me away was that I found Armenian string cheese by King ($7.99). I’m curious about trying this brand because it also contains caraway seeds.

If you follow Great American International Seafood Market on Facebook, you will find some amazing sale offers. They recently featured super fresh wild-caught halibut at $29.99 lb, normally at $36.99 lb., Sockeye filets at $13.99 lb, and Wild-Caught U15 Shrimp at $19.99 lb.

The Great American International Seafood Market is a “full-service” seafood market. They will gladly scale, clean, fillet, or shuck anything to order. In addition, their parent company Southwind Food is a huge distributor and stocks more than 5,000 items. As a result, they have access to almost anything. Multiple employees told me, “if you don’t see it, ask because we can get it.”

I like stores like this when I’m planning a family gathering and need to order things like oysters and blue crab by the bushel.
