Celebrate National Tequila Day at Lanea in Santa Monica

July 19, 2021 by Bryan

This year National Tequila Day takes place on Saturday, July 24. Unfortunately, no one knows the history behind National Tequila Day and how it began. Perhaps the creators of this holiday just consumed too much of the drink they celebrated to remember they created it. Either way, the exact roots of this day are not recorded.

National Tequila Day

LA’s premier Tequila and Mezcal bar, Lanea, presents a National Tequila Day Cocktail Crawl & Block Party on Saturday, July 24, from 8 p.m. – 2 a.m. in Downtown Santa Monica. Local venues Cult, Lanea, and The Craftsman are coming together to celebrate with tequila, DJs, and live music! VIP Tickets are only $25 and are available now.

  • Two drink tickets for Tequila Drink Special Cocktails at each venue
  • $8 Tequila Drink Specials
  • 1 JAJA Tequila Tasting Ticket
  • A chance to win a Grande Fiesta Pack from Lanea with two signed canned cocktails by the Chainsmokers (value $100)

Lanea is located on Broadway Ave, steps away from Ocean Ave in Santa Monica. The interior is upscale beachy and blends well with the westside. They are best known for their extensive tequila and mezcal collection, with over 400 varieties available. Lanea received a lot of attention during the pandemic when they released their line of craft canned cocktails to-go.

National Tequila Day - Margarita and PCH
Spicy Margarita and the Picante Coast Highway

VIP customers will receive a choice of two tequila cocktails such as their classic margarita, spicy margarita, Picante Coast Highway (with passionfruit and habanero-infused honey), or the SOCALiente (with pineapple, citrus, and habanero-infused honey). Their cocktails are strong, smooth, and tasty.

National Tequila Day - JAJA
JAJA Small Batch Tequila

But wait, there’s more. Customers will experience Jaja’s small-batch sipping tequila. The VIP ticket also includes a flight of Jaja’s tequilas, Blanco, Reposado and Anejo. Determine which of the three is your favorite. Blanco is distilled and the easiest to drink. Reposado is aged six months in oak barrels and has notes of vanilla. Anejo is full-bodied, aged in oak for two years, and the most complex of the three. In Ingles, JAJA is pronounced Ha Ha.

Tacos
From top going clockwise – Pollo, Shrimp and Carne Asada

When you visit, be sure to order some of their authentic Mexican food. The Zavaleta family of Barba Kush runs the kitchen, an establishment that received a lot of attention when Bill Esparza reviewed it. The lamb barbacoa is a must-try. The lamb is wrapped in agave leaves and pit-roasted over a slow fire for 36 hours. The lamb is moist, tender, and nicely seasoned.
