Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at The Cat and Fiddle

March 15, 2021 by Bryan

St. Patrick’s Day is this Wednesday, Mar. 17. If you haven’t lined up your St. Patrick’s Day outing, you should consider The Cat and Fiddle Restaurant and Pub in Hollywood. Their March specials include Corned Beef with Cabbage and Corned Beef Sliders. In addition, diners placing on-line orders may add a pint of Guinness for only $5.

The Cat and Fiddle Restaurant and Pub is a longstanding destination for Irish comfort food as well as tasty libations. They originally opened in 1982, moved to Sunset Blvd where they became a destination for Hollywood types, and presently they are located on Highland Ave just north of Melrose Ave.

Pivot quickly became an overused word during the pandemic to describe how restaurant operators have had to adjust their operations in order to remain in business. Owner Ashlee Gardner was no exception and she created a new take-out window that allows customers to remain outside thereby protecting her employees and her customers.

Cat and Fiddle - Bangers and Mash
Homemade Bangers and Mash

Bangers and Mash ($18.50) is a British Pub classic dish and the ultimate comfort food for Brits. It is served with mashed potatoes and caramelized onions and pea mash. The combination of the sweet caramelized onions with the salty brown gravy nicely paired with the grilled sausages.

Scotch Egg

Scotch Egg ($9.00) is made using a hard-boiled egg wrapped in their homemade sausage. It is then breaded and deep-fried. Both the supplied mustard and sweet and sour sauces nicely complemented the Scotch Egg.

Cat and Fiddle - Corned Beef and Cabbage

Of everything I ordered, our unanimous favorite was their classic Corned Beef and Cabbage ($19.00). The corned beef was lean and amazingly tender. It must have been slow-roasted for hours. Sauteed cabbage, carrots, and mashed potatoes made this an extremely filling meal.

Corned Beef Sliders

Their tender corned beef is also available in slider format. Three Corned Beef Sliders are stuffed with slaw and served with a generous amount of french fries ($17.00). Containers of yellow mustard as well as whole-grain mustard are included.

The Corned Beef Sliders and the Corned Beef and Cabbage are the March specials running through the end of the month. If you like pairing your meal with a Guiness Stout, make sure to take advantage of their “add a pint of Guinness for only $5”.
